The Dodgertown Classic won't feature a Sunday at Dodger Stadium this season while the venerable old place at Chavez Ravine undergoes renovations, but it still brings three outstanding teams and USC together for a great weekend of college baseball. The whole thing gets underway tonight when UCLA (9-2) hosts Notre Dame (8-2) at Jackie Robinson Stadium in a battle of top 25 teams that also gives each squad their toughest test to date.
Adam Plutko will be on the hill for UCLA tonight and he will really be tested by a good Fighting Irish offense led by Trey Mancini and Eric Jagielo. While Plutko has a good 2-0 record and 2.89 ERA, Plutko hasn't been at his best this season and will need to turn it up against Notre Dame.
Notre Dame will hand the ball to Sean Fitzgerald, who is 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA. The right-hander is coming off a great start last weekend, when he limited Tennessee to one run on five hits in eight innings and struck out eight.
If you're not at the stadium tonight, listen in to John Ramey and Tim Welhelm or follow along with GameTracker. You can also get all of your game updates and observations, as well as all news, notes and links on my UCLA baseball Twitter. This is your open thread so chime in with updates and observations all night.
