(Update) Time to Flex Those Mighty Bruin Muscles

Doug Pensinger

Bumped from Fanposts. GO BRUINS. - BN Eds.

Actually, what I'm about to ask you to do takes very little muscles at all. I want every man, woman, and child here on Bruins Nation to send Marcus Rios' a get well card. And, I want you to send many cards. I want to flood the young man with so many cards, they have to bring them to him in baskets. I personally plan to send him one a week; maybe even more.

Disclosure time: When I was 26 i was diagnosed with Carcinoma Teratoma; Testicular Cancer. I underwent two surgeries, and by the grace of God, never had to undergo Chemo Therapy. The second surgery was a marathon like 8 hours long, and during which one of my lungs collapsed. It took me the better part of a year to recover from that surgery. Ever since then, I cringe at the mention of surgery. So, it pains me to hear what this young man has had to go through and will continue to go through. It is a big reason I cared so much about the health and well being of Tyler and InsomniacLounge and their entire family. I still worry and care about what that little boy has had to go through.

Laying in the cancer ward at UCI Medical in Orange, Ca was one of the big reason I even came to UCLA. I was content working construction and before the cancer bout, I felt that my academic career was over. Facing the specter of death is what motivated me to get back in school and more importantly to shoot for my dreams. It can and will be a transformative experience for Marcus Rios, and I want to make it as positive an experience as possible.

Recalling my own health crisis, I can tell you that one of the best feelings in my life was waking up to new visitors in my hospital room. It seemed that every time I woke up, someone I would not have expected was sitting there worrying about me. It meant a great deal to me, and I'm sure receiving hundreds and even thousands of get well cards from the greater Bruin Family will do the same for Marcus Rios.

Please help me cheer Marcus up by sending greeting cards, even personal letters, to:

UPDATE: Albeit a minor one at best. I spoke to Keona at the Athletic Department about getting updates on Marcus Rios' condition (HT Bruingirl83). I was told the best way is to simply watch the UCLA Athletics twitter feed. I then encouraged her to keep us up to date on his condition. She was very happily touched that we care about this. So, DON'T FORGET TO SEND MORE CARDS OUT!
