Quest for #109: Women's Tennis Elite Eight Open Thread

Just like their male counterparts, the #7-seeded women's tennis team have continued to survive and advance, marching into the Elite Eight at the NCAA tournament, following a clean 4-0 sweep over #10-seeded Michigan. The Lady Bruins will try to join the men in the Final Four this afternoon at 2 p.m. against #2-seeded North Carolina.

It was only yesterday that the #1-seeded men's tennis team continued their perfect run through the NCAA tournament by dropping #9-seeded Duke in the Elite Eight, 4-0. So far, the Bruins have yet to drop a point in their full-on assault on the NCAA field. And, just like the men, the #7-seeded Lady Bruins have yet to drop a point during their NCAA tournament run, and now find themselves in an Elite Eight match against #2-seeded North Carolina following a 4-0 victory over #10-seeded Michigan. Of course, the question is whether the ladies can follow in the men's footsteps and put down this North Carolina squad to book their place in the Final Four?

In the Sweet Sixteen, the Lady Bruins got started strong, picking up the doubles point in a tight match (6-8, 9-7, 8-2), followed by three singles victories in a row by Robin Anderson (6-3, 6-4), Kyle McPhillips (6-1, 6-2), and Courtney Dolehide (6-1, 6-0), to give UCLA the four points necessary to move on to the next round.

If you want to check out the action, both live statistics and live video will be available through the University of Illinois here.
