In an early surprise from the Army All-America game, linebacker Dwight Williams from Junipero Serra HS in Gardena announced he will be a Bruin. BOOM!
Rivals has Williams ranked as 4 stars and the 8th best linebacker in the state. He is listed as 6-1 and 212 lbs. You can see his Rivals profile here. He had at least 37 offers from major D-1 programs. Today, Williams chose the Bruins over Florida, LSU, Clemson, and the favorite, Oklahoma.
Williams had kept his recruitiment close to the vest through the process, so this was a big surprise to all involved. I was watching this and knew we'd have a hat on the table, but when the young man eloquently thanked his supporters and then said, "I'll be getting my education at..." I sat up and thought that sounds like something a Bruin would say. Sure enough. He announced to the "University...of California at Los Angeles", and then moments later spoke of his goal to go to our law school. How can you not love that sort of student-athlete.
In a surprise to no one, however, Williams' primary recruiter was Coach Adrian Klemm.
Williams was a 1st team All-CIF and All-State player this season. You can see highlights in the video below
With Anthony Barr and Jordan Zumwalt heading to the pros, and Eric Kendricks a senior next year, there will be a lot of playing time available over the next few years. Coach Ulbrich has done a great job with the Bruin linebacking corps and Williams will be a welcome addition.
