UCLA Football Recruiting: 4* LB Kenny Young Leaves the South for UCLA

The wave of signing day news continues building, as River Ridge (John Curtis HS), Louisiana linebacker Kenny Young commits to Coach Mora and UCLA

The news became official just a little while ago when the John Curtis High trio announced their college choices on ESPNU, Kenny Young is a Bruin!

Kenny had long been considered the most likely of the southern recruits that Coach Mora and his staff have pursued this recruiting cycle to end up committing to the Bruins, and that has come true this morning. He picked UCLA among finalists which included Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M among many other offers to join Zach Whitley in the middle of the future Bruin linebacking corps.

By the numbers, Kenny measures in at 6'2, 225lb. He is a consensus 4-star recruit; Scout ranks him as the 7th best middle linebacker in this class, and the #150 player overall, while Rivals has him as the 95th best player overall, and the #5 outside linebacker. I imagine that the staff sees him playing on the inside once he gets to Westwood - between Young and Whitley, Coach Ulbrich has gotten 2 of the top-10 inside linebackers from this year's recruiting class, both from the south - Texas and Louisiana.

For all the talk that Adrian Klemm gets as an elite recruiter, let's not forget what Jeff Ulbrich has done so far as UCLA linebackers coach (and likely our next defensive coordinator).

Hudl.com has some of Young's junior and senior year highlights. Scout.com has also posted a highlight cut for Kenny, embedded below via Scout's YouTube channel:

ESPN shared a brief clip of Kenny at last winter's Under Armor combine in St. Pete.

It is still early in National Signing Day, but the Bruins have picked up a shiny new commit. And he is a good one. Welcome to Westwood Kenny, and

GO BRUINS!
