After months of play throughout the NCAA, March Madness is right around the corner. Today is Selection Sunday, and while the Bruins have their place in the field of 64 65 68 reserved, there are still a few conferences that have set their championship games for today, with teams seeking to improve their seeding - as well as a couple teams needing to secure a spot in the field - in these final few hours before the brackets are unveiled.
Today's first game features #6 Virginia trying to win their first ACC Tournament Championship since 1976 (and first ever regular season/tournament sweep) by taking on #7 Duke in Greensboro, NC. Tipoff is scheduled for 10am Pacific on ESPN.
Also scheduled for 10am starts are the Atlantic-10 and Sun Belt Championship games. In the A-10, Shaka Smart's #23-ranked Virginia Commonwealth squad takes on St. Josephs at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, while Georgia St. and Lousiana-Lafayette meet in New Orleans for the Sun Belt's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The final two games of this phase of the college season tip off right around noon: #1 Florida seeks to cap off a perfect SEC season against an unranked and underachieving Kentucky squad (12pm Pacific, ESPN). Regardless of what happens in the SEC Championship Game, John Calipari's team should avoid last year's brief NIT trip.
And for the 99% of us reading this blog who would rather avoid watching a game resulting in either Florida Basketball or Calipari winning something, Michigan takes on Michigan State in the Big 10 Championship Game (12:30pm, CBS), followed by the Tournament Selection Show at 3pm pacific on CBS.
