I BELIEVE. I BELIEVE THAT. I BELIEVE THAT WE. I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!
It's finally here, the day we've been counting down to, with our very own boys in Red, White, and Blue back in action in the final day of group play action in the World Cup. With places in the knock-out rounds up for grabs, the odds tip heavily in favor of the United States advancing as our Americans take on Germany at 9 a.m. PST, while Portugal and Ghana will play at the same time. It's the biggest game for the the American men's team in recent memory as a result against the Germans, one of the favorites to win the whole tournament, would really put the rest of the world on notice that the United States are a serious force to contend with, and not just an also-ran group of guys (like say, the over-rated hype machine known as England).
Today, the United States will take on Germany on ESPN, with both teams needing a single point (from a convenient tie) to advance to the knock-out stage, while Portugal and Ghana will play at the same time on ESPN2, hoping for the Germans to run over the Americans to give them a chance. While the tie would be the safe play for the Yanks, with Belgium the most likely opponent for the second place team in our group, expect both the Americans and Germans to play to win and clinch top spot, and with it, the likely match-up against either Algeria, Russia, or South Korea.
Speaking of the Group H teams, they'll be in action this afternoon at 1 p.m. PST, with the Belgians taking on the South Koreans on ESPN, while Algeria and Russia play at the same time on ESPN2. Again, the odds are stacked in America's favor to advance, but our boys need to go out and put out an all-world effort to come away with a win and a chance to make a deep run in the World Cup.
Oh yeah, it's time. Let's do this America. Kick off for our boys in Red, White, and Blue is set for 9 a.m. PST on ESPN. This is your World Cup open thread at the USMNT plays a massive game, with advancement on the line. Fire away with your thoughts, analysis, and opinions as you tune in and as we cheer on the Red, White and Blue.
GO BRUINS
I BELIEVE. I BELIEVE THAT. I BELIEVE THAT WE. I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!
GO U-S-A!
