Former UCLA Wide Receiver Jerry Rice Jr. Signs With the Redskins

Jerry Rice Jr. celebrating a Bruin touchdown by Jordon James vs. Colorado - Doug Pensinger

Jerry Rice Jr. was originally a walk-on at UCLA, coming from Menlo School. He redshirted his freshman season in 2009, and caught 9 passes in limited duty over the next three seasons. Most importantly, he worked hard in the classroom and graduated in four years. Rice then transferred to UNLV, where he appeared in 11 games while doing postgrad studies.

Rice clearly did not give up on his dream of following in his dad's footsteps to the NFL. Yesterday he signed a contract with the Washington Redskins. As an undrafted free agent, he will have his work cut out for him. But Rice clearly knows the value of hard work from his dad.

The Redskins' owner is pretty clearly not a pillar of forward-thinking ownership. But at least Jerry Rice Jr. has a chance now to push for a roster spot in the NFL. Best of luck to UCLA grad Jerry Rice Jr.
