The Bruins Nation Awards 2014: Vote For Best Comedy

Yesterday it was serious stuff, but today it's all about the laughs. Let's look back at the funniest blogposts from 2014 from the best online community in the Internet world. Today we announce our nominees for Best Comedy and your votes will decide the winner.

Happy 2015, Bruins Nation! It's time to continue our 5th annual Bruins Nation Awards.

Yesterday we introduced our nominees for Best Writing. Today, we announce our nominees for Best Comedy. Links to the nominees and the poll for your votes are included below.

Your votes will determine the winner of the pretty highly coveted Benny a 5 inch replica of the 40 foot high blue Bruin sculpture in downtown Denver. #IOTT (I own this town).

I want to repeat my sincere thanks to everyone who participates here at BN. The year has had its ups and downs and BN is going through its own growing pains, but the thing that keeps us all together is our love for U.C.L.A. That bond makes this community special, and it is those community members who are the lifeblood of BN. These awards are a way to honor and thank you guys. Front pagers are ineligible for consideration. These awards are given only to our BN community members.

There was some great humor and satire on Bruins Nation in 2014, and while narrowing it down to 5 was difficult, it was pretty fun. Each title below is linked to the original post so you can go back and reread the finalists.

So, with no further ado…the finalists for the 2014 BN Award for Best Writing are :

Eye Test For the TV Coverage - Fox71 Jan 2

It only took 2 days for Fox's acid wit to strike in 2014 and his favorite target, well second favorite after jsutsc, the TV coverage was in the crosshairs. It's even more impressive when you consider that his Eye Test was done without the benefit of sound, though Fox would say that actually lessened the distractions. Which makes sense, He might have need a few more F's if the volume was on at all.

BN Lexicon 2.0! It's Time To Update - KSBruin Jan 15

KSBruin began to catalog the Bruins Nation vernacular and idioms in 2010, and after 4 years clearly an update was due. New terms like FYI…, Old Pauley Under Glass (OPUG), TIARA, and Sarkiffin became part of everyday conversation on BN and thus earned their way into the Lexicon update.

Quintessential Dan - Bruinut Feb 8

FYI…  Another ingenious post from the creator of The Pyramid of Sliza, The Three Tenures, and Tiaraku. Those posts  got 13, 11, and 11 recs respectively. But this nominee got 15, a permanent place in the BN Lexicon, and kept us laughing all year.

Dan Convenes A Task Force - SactoIV Mar 8

What happens when one of the laziest and most ineffectual bureaucrats in the world surrounds himself with other lazy and ineffectual bureaucrats to form one of the most ineffective administrative tools. Check out this hilariously sad depiction of the outcome.

I'm Block/Guerrero. Let Me Introduce Myself - bruinfollower Oct 13

It is a truth universally acknowledged that bruinfollower is one of BN's most prolific posters, and this time bruinfollower dives into the single mind of Block/Guerrero. Whether that means they share one brain or each carry half isn't stated, but the satire that is stated in this piece will leave you certain that Block/Guerrero has at least lost one mind already.

Congrats to our 5 finalists!

As with previous awards, we reviewed each of the year's fanshots and fanposts, selected the best, and then narrowed it down to a final 5 nominees. The finalists were chosen on a pretty subjective combination of eloquence, relevance, originality, and emotion, and got bonus points for the conversation it created in the comments. It was harder than ever this year to choose just 5, and that's an annual testament to the great minds and the great passion of the people here on BN. This year's semifinalists included:

Voting will remain open until Jan 16. Shortly after, we will announce the winners of the Best Writing and Best Comedy polls, and we will and we will award our third annual Editors' Choice Award for outstanding contributions to Bruins Nation. Last year's Editors' Choice winner was MexiBruin and we will have a new winner this year.
