One of the best things my mother ever did for me was to get me hooked on old musicals. Watching these films, singing and dancing along, always brought the purest sence of joy to my being and I smile now just thinking about them now.
My favorite singer/dancer was always Gene Kelly (sorry Fred!). It wasn't just because of his good looks, but also his more athletic style and build. As a kid, one of my mom's favorite memories was hanging out in front of MGM studios after school or on the weekends and trying to get an autograph or two. One time she got to meet Gene Kelly and get his! If only I'd been a bit older (but I guess that couldn't work).
Well, I checked this Saturday's weather forecast for Corvallis (prompted by the comment Coach Mora made in Thursday's presser), and saw that it was predicted to be a cool 54 degrees with rain. At first I felt downtrodden. Would our Bruins adjust to the rain? Will they be able to run and pass in the rain? Or would the rain put a damper on what could be a really fun game for the team and its fans?
But then I remembered Gene - singing and dancing in the rain. I mean, if he could sing and dance in the rain (especially the Hollywood kind), our players should be able to do the same... now I've a smile on my face. And if all goes well, I we all should continue to have one on Saturday.
So I dedicate this tune to all the diehard Bruin fans who are traveling to Corvallis this weekend (including a couple of my friends) and especially to our players, who I know will be singin' and dancin' in the rain come Saturday. Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy:
I'm singing in the rain Just singing in the rain What a glorious feeling I'm happy again I'm laughing at clouds So dark up above The sun's in my heart And I'm ready for love Let the stormy clouds chase Everyone from the place Come on with the rain I've a smile on my face I'll walk down the lane With a happy refrain Just singing in the rain. Singing in the rain.
Dancing in the rain I'm happy again I'm singing and dancing in the rain I'm dancing and singing in the rain
For those of you who prefer warmer and drier accommodations, we have a great list of place where you can watch the game with other Bruin fans. A huge thank you to the alumni association and other Bruins organizations, for organizing these watch parties. While this is a pretty complete list, please add, correct, or organize gatherings in the thread below.
