One of the great things about the greater UCLA community is how it comes together to take care of its own.
This is one of those times.
On December 5th, Peter Olorunfunmi passed away. As you can guess from the last name, Peter was the father of UCLA running back Bolu Olorunfunmi.
Bolu posted this to his Twitter account that day:
God received my greatest hero today. I love you Daddy and I will always miss you. I am that man you created. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/iiO7w0N2VX— BamBam Bolu (@youseela20) December 6, 2015
In a subsequent tweet, Bolu mentioned that he is raising the money to pay for his dad's funeral via Go Fund Me where he writes about his dad:
Peter Olorunfunmi was a family man who made sure his family was set and good to go. He left me, 3 little boys, and the strongest mother I know. He struggled with his business but always tried to make ends meet. His passing hurts us all and we wish it wasn't at this time, but we can never question God. He left me in college, three boys still in school and a wife trying to take over and provide for her children. So please Donate as you please, God bless you all. My dad would be proud either way.
However, due to Compliance Issues, UCLA donors, alumni and fans are prohibited from donating to this fund.
Obivously, no one wants to cause an issue which could jeopardize Bolu's eligibility after the promising season he had this year as a true freshman.
There is some good news, though, Bruin fans.
The UCLA Foundation has provided a way to allow donors, alumni and fans to contribute towards the actual funeral expenses in a way which meets NCAA Compliance rules.
UCLA donors, alumni and fans may donate towards the actual funeral expenses by contacting Emily Lerner in the UCLA Development Office at 310 206-0362 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Checks should be made payable to "The UCLA Foundation" and please write "Peter Olorunfunmi" or "In memory of Peter O" in the check memo line. Emily can also accept payment via credit card over the phone.
Bruins Nation extends our condolences to Bolu and the entire Olorunfunmi family.
