In 2007, Catherine Barnes, the mother of Matt Barnes, passed away. Just twenty-six days earlier Catherine had been diagnosed with four types of cancer. In 2008, Matt launched Athletes vs. Cancer so that others wouldn't have to go through what he and his family went through, "losing a loved one without having the opportunity to receive the knowledge and proper resources that can assist in early detection and thorough treatment".
The mission of Athletes vs. Cancer is to "provide support and resources for individuals and families affected by youth and adult cancer". They do this is by providing financial grants to help families meet their costs and by creating opportunities for youth and young adults to socialize with others.
This weekend, Fightback Weekend, Athletes vs. Cancer has put together opportunities to help these young people and their families achieve both of these goals.

100% of the proceeds will benefit the Athletes vs. Cancer Scholarship Fund which will award current patients or survivors touched by cancer, that are pursuing their collegiate level of education.
Tickets start at only $15. Using the previous link and posting to Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #BFAfightsCancer will trigger a matching contribution to the Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation from the Bruin Fan Alliance.
