Here's what we know so far, and it's not much.
BREAKING: UCLA defensive back Ishmael Adams arrested for robbery on campus, on $100k bail. More details to follow.— Daily Bruin Sports (@DBSports) August 31, 2015
From UCLA, on the arrest of Ishmael Adams: "We are aware of the situation and continuing to gather information." Declined further comment.— Jack Wang (@thejackwang) August 31, 2015
As with any situation like this, we will let the facts become available before rushing to judgement on the accusations and/or charges.
What is certain is that this is terrible timing for a team that is 5 days away from its home opener in a season with very high expectations. For a program that has had a good reputation since Jim Mora's arrival 4 years ago, this is a very unexpected event and a very bad look right now. And a bail of $100K is a big deal.
Adams was expected to be the Bruins big playmaker as a kick returner and also to see time at corner behind starters Fabian Moreau and Marcus Rios.
We'll be following this story and updating as more information becomes available.
Update: According to a report in the Daily Bruin, Adams was arrested at 3:30 AM on Sunday morning for allegedly stealing the cell phone of an Uber driver. Significantly, in addition to reporting the robbery, the driver reported "minor injuries." The Daily Bruin reports that, according to LA Sheriff's Department records, charges have no yet been filed.
Bruins Nation will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
