We’ve reached the halfway point of the college football season. Conference races are starting to heat up, and playoff contenders are beginning to emerge. There have been some surprise teams outperforming pre-season expectations, and many disappointing starts. The grind of the season can be brutal. But hey, it’s also a lot of fun to watch.
Speaking of watching college football! Here are some games to keep an eye on while you anxiously wait to see if Josh Rosen will be suited up in Pullman tonight.
#20 West Virginia at Texas Tech, 9:00am PDT, FS1. Mike Leach has added a running game to his version of the Air Raid, but two of his most famous disciples, Dana Holgorsen and Kliff Kingsbury, clash in Lubbock with the pass happy original version to kick off today’s football action. Like points? Check. Like defense? Take this time to read the paper or something. The over/under is 85, and West Virginia is favored in Vegas by 2.
#1 Alabama at #9 Tennessee, 12:30pm PDT, CBS. The Volunteers' luck ran out in College Station last week— blast those overtime losses to A&M! They remain ranked in the top ten, and their prize is to host the Number One Crimson Tide, who after getting into a hole early at Ole Miss, have other wise looked as Bama as ever. Can Butch Jones’s team knock off the Tide?
#12 Ole Miss at #22 Arkansas, 4:00pm PDT, ESPN. Arkansas had some early season hype, but are 0-2 in conference play. The Rebels are favored by 8 on the road and likely won’t be the team they beat. Bret Bielema knows how to get media attention, but does he know how to get the Razorbacks a win in the SEC West?
Stanford at Notre Dame, 4:30pm PDT, NBC. Listing this one for traditional reasons, I guess, because neither of these teams are ranked, or good, right now. Brian Kelly, at 2-4, may not be able to fire enough assistants to keep his job. The Stanford offense has been bad with Christian McCaffrey, and may be even worse without him—he’s questionable to play tonight. The Irish are favored by a field goal.
#2 Ohio State at #8 Wisconsin, 5:00pm PDT, ABC. Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes travel to Madison for a top ten match up. Wisconsin lost a defensive grinder in Ann Arbor two weeks ago, and are coming off a bye into this tilt. Ohio State is favored by eleven points going into Camp Randall Stadium, not an easy place to play under the lights.
Here's the full list of today's games.
