UCLA WSocc Takes on Washington Huskies

Number 12 UCLA takes on the Washington Huskies in second to last home game.

@UCLAAthletics

With only five games left of the regular season, the Bruins look to finish their remaining games on a high note. Last week against Arizona, UCLA had a great start. They opened the scoring seven minutes in and had Arizona beat in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks going into halftime. Even though Arizona was outplayed, they found a way to equalize the game. Eventually, the game went into overtime, the third straight OT for the Bruins. Arizona was starting to catch up and the night could have gone either way. That was until freshmen Sunny Dunphy slotted in a great ball by sophomore Hailie Mace. UCLA finally won in OT.

The Bruins now face a Washington Huskies side that hasn’t had the best season. They had six straight loses before they defeated Arizona two weeks prior and suffered a loss to Colorado this past week. In conference play, Washington is 6-8-1 overall and 1-5-0 in conference.

Junior and team captain Shannon Simon looks to add to her tally of 14 points and seven goals against the Bruins. In order for Simon to accomplish that, she must get by freshmen and Canadian international Jessie Fleming. Fleming has scored three goals and one assist in conference play. There is also the tall task of getting the balls past freshmen goalkeeper Teagan Micah. Micah has proven to come up big with a record of six shutouts.

Based on records, it seems as if UCLA has the win, but in sports, nothing is ever certain. The Bruins have everything to lose in this game. A Washington win can help boost confidence, but with limited amounts of games left, the Huskies don’t look to be moving past the regular season. A win for the Bruins would start what could possibly be a great end of the season.
