Tonight, the UCLA Bruins open the 2016-2017 men's basketball season at home against the University of the Pacific Tigers at 6pm.
The Tigers are coached by former Arizona Wildcat Damon Stoudamire. This is Stoudamire's first head coaching gig. For the past seven years, he's been an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA as well as both the Arizona Wildcats and the Memphis Tigers.
Bruin fans will no doubt remember Stoudamire from when he played for Lute Olson at UofA from 1991 to 1995 where he led the Cats to the 1994 Final Four before going on to a 13-year career in the NBA.
The Tigers played Bristol University in an exhibition game on November 4th and destroyed them. The Tigers scored the first 43 points of the game and won by a score of 106-39.
Despite that, Pacific has been picked to finish seventh in the West Coast Conference behind Loyola Marymount.
This should give the Bruins a good opportunity to work on the elusive phase of their game which was missing so frequently last season: consistent defense.
