CFB Late Saturday Open Thread: The Big Game and Oklahoma Looks to Boost Its CFP Chances

In addition to the UCLA-Southern Cal game, Pac-12 rivals Stanford and Cal will play the Big Game this afternoon while Oklahoma stakes its CFP claim against West Virginia on ABC in primetime.

It’s rivalry week in California as the Cardinal visit Berkeley in the Big Game. Meanwhile, Oklahoma heads to West Virginia looking to turn their rivalry game against Oklahoma State into a de facto Big 12 championship game and, more importantly, the Sooners hope they can make an argument that they belong in the College Football Playoff.

#24 Stanford at California, 2:30pm PST, Pac-12 Network. This happened a couple of years ago, Stanford started off the season looking awful, but by the end got into form and started playing like the Stanford we expect to see for the last decade or so. David Shaw’s program is having a down year, but with games left against Cal and Rice, a down year could mean 9-3. I’d take it.

#9 Oklahoma at #14 West Virginia, 5:00pm PST, ABC. With losses by Louisville on Thursday night, and the parade of top four losses by teams not named Alabama last week, a spot could open up for the Big 12 champion. Oklahoma travels to Morgantown undefeated in conference play and in control if their own destiny. West Virginia would have to win out, and then get some help from the Sooners next week. They are home-dogs under the lights tonight.
