Frankly, I don’t think Ohio State should be playing in the second National Semifinal this afternoon. Their selection sends a message that conference championships mean less than they should.
Personally, I think a team should have to play for its conference championship in order to qualify for the College Football Playoff.
But, I’m not on the CFP Committee and they didn’t ask me what I think.
I just wanted to share it with all of you as the Buckeyes faces the Clemson Tigers this afternoon for the right to play Alabama in the National Championship game in Tampa a week from Monday. If the Tigers can defeat the Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl, it will set up a rematch of last year’s CFP National Championship game, which was a 45-40 thriller.
Make no mistake, Ohio State is certainly a good football team and today’s matchup will be a good one. I have the utmost respect for the program that Urban Meyer has built in Columbus, but, if you can’t even be champions of your conference, how can you claim you deserve to be the National Champs?
This is your College Football Playoff national semifinal #2 open thread.
