Rower Meaghan Volker Added to Australian Olympic Team

The 2014 UCLA graduate was named to the Australian Olympic team after the Russian crew was disqualified from competing.

The list of 2016 UCLA Olympians grew by one more on Friday when FISA, the International Rowing Federation, awarded Australia a qualifying place for the Rio Games.

As a result of the decision to rule the Russian crew ineligible to the history of doping with several athletes, former Bruin rower Meaghan Volker will be competing as part of the Australian women’s eight, according to a press release from the Australian Olympics committee.

Volker is a 2014 graduate of UCLA who rowed for two seasons at UCLA. In her two seasons with the UCLA Women’s Rowing team, the team placed 9th and 12th in the NCAA Championships. She was a first-team CRCA All-American selection during here senior season at UCLA.

Prior to transferring to UCLA, Volker had competed for two seasons at the University of Tasmania.

Volker is the 31st UCLA athlete to compete in this year’s Olympic Games.
