UNLV IS A WIN, LOSE, LOSE, LOSE SITUATION

Ok, so it's Friday and we almost have the bad taste from the Aggie game out of our mouths. Well almost! I'm sure lessons were learned and corrections made. Lessons were learned and corrections made right? Yea I'm sure so let's move on to the UNLV game.

This game is clearly a win, lose, lose ,lose prospect for our beloved Westwooders and allow me to "Splain Lucy".

WIN SCENARIO:

The only way the Bruins truly WIN and shush some of the nay sayers is to come out and completely dominate the Runnin Rebels on both sides of the ball. Really put an old fashion beat down on UNLV Saturday night in the Rose Bowl similar to the way Alabama beat down you know who last week.

Why do we call it an old fashion beat down? Shouldn't we be better at beat downs in this day and age? Shouldn't we have perfected the beat down by now?

Side bar here; I know I should have been pulling for the Pac 12 versus the SEC last weekend but you know the old saying, "I cheer for two teams, UCLA and who ever is playing usc!" Yes, I enjoyed that old fashion beat down of the boys of Troy immensely.

Back to the matter at hand; UNLV. I know a win is a win but a dynamic offensive performance and a dominating defensive performance over a team that really can't compare across the board with the Bruin program is what the the doctor has ordered. If the Bruins would have beaten the Aggies last Saturday at College Station this game would have been a mere formality and a less than dominant performance against the Rebels in week two would be construed only as a bit of a let down after a big win and some disinterest by the Bruin players heading into the BYU game the following week. But that's not the case!

KP needs to call a balanced game and be more productive with red zone plays. Rosen and the O need to execute expertly and the defense needs to contain and smother the UNLV offense otherwise the Bruins might limp into the BYU road game with a fragile mind set.

LOSE SCENARIO #1:

If the Bruins win fairly handily but not in dominant fashion and if execution is sloppy it will feel a little bit like a loss. Spotty play, dropped passes and gashing runs against the D could leave another bad taste in many mouths. Yea, a pedestrian win in this fashion could be viewed as a loss.

LOSE SCENARIO #2:

If the Bruins play a nail biter and win a close game at home against the heavy underdogs from Las Vegas official panic will set in and questions will be flying around regarding the hiring of first time offensive coordinator KP.

In this scenario questions will no doubt be in abundance as to why a defensive coordinator was hired that previously called plays for a million years in a conference that was known primarily as a running conference and not one who had experience stopping wide open spread type offenses that throw the ball a high percentage of the time and who posses quarterbacks who can run like half backs. A close win will truly be almost as bad as a loss.

LOSE SCENARIO #3:

An upset this weekend would no doubt escalate all the afore mentioned concerns to the highest degree and no doubt indicate that the big offensive change may have been a bit pre mature!

The season would also be derailed to the point of being an early national laughing stock and potentially devastating to future recruiting.

But before we get to that point let's all take a deep breath and watch closely HOW the team wins this weekend, not IF the team wins this weekend.

A blow out win or winning style points are key for this Bruin Squad this weekend. Let's put the season back on track and in the style of Funk Machine, "Let's Get This Party Started Right!"
