Tonight, the 2017 NCAA Tournament comes to an end with the National Championship game between the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels. It looks like a matchup of David vs. Goliath. But is it really?
Gonzaga spent most of the season ranked in the Top 5 in the polls while North Carolina spent most of the season ranked a lot lower. Of course, Carolina has the pedigree and Gonzaga doesn’t.
But championships are decided on the court, not by how many other championships a team may have won in the past. And, on the court, Gonzaga had the best record in the country this season at 37-1. They’ve earned their spot in this Championship Game tonight.
I’m still not convinced that Carolina is as good as people keep saying they are. If Oregon had shot better Saturday, we’d be looking at a Gonzaga-Oregon game tonight instead of Gonzaga-North Carolina.
Personally, I think tonight is the night that Carolina’s luck will run out.
