College Football Friday: Bowl Eligibility on the Line for Two Teams Tonight

Both Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky have five wins. So, someone is going home bowl-eligible after tonight.

NCAA Football: Vanderbilt at Middle Tennessee Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Both Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky go into this match up 5-5, so someone is going home bowl eligible. Middle Tennessee has struggled to stay healthy this year, and has lost key playmakers throughout the season, including their starting quarterback Brent Stockstill. Stockstill came back two weeks ago, and the Blue Raiders are on a two game win streak. Western Kentucky has a tougher close to their season, taking on Florida International the day after Thanksgiving, so tonight’s win is an easier path to bowl eligibility for this program.

When New Mexico and UNLV meet, the UNLV Rebels are hoping to keep their bowl dreams alive, while New Mexico was mathematically eliminated from any bowl game last week when they lost 55-14 to Texas A&M last weekend. Surprisingly, the Lobos are ranked 22nd nationally for their run game, which is actually a drop off from last year’s production. They’ve struggled in this capacity recently and averaged under 200 yards rushing in each of their losses.
