Today, we start getting into some of the top tier bowl games, but not right away.

The first game today isn’t a top tier bowl game, but it should still be a good matchup when the Louisville Cardinals face the #23 Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville. Any game which features 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson has the potential to be an exciting one. This one may be his last college game. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are playing under interim coach Greg Knox after head coach Dan Mullen left to take the Florida job.

The second game today may amount to a home game for the #20 Memphis Tigers. That’s because the Autozone Liberty Bowl is played in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium where the Tigers play their home games. They will welcome the Iowa State Cyclones and head coach Matt Campbell to Memphis.

This game is definitely worth watching for Bruin fans because the Cyclone upperclassmen were recruited to Iowa State by new UCLA DB coach Paul Rhoads and should be some indication of the types of guys Rhoads will recruit for the Bruins.

The third game of the day today is the Fiesta Bowl from Tempe. This game features the #9 Penn State Nittany Lions and the #11 Washington Huskies. This is the only game today featuring a Pac-12 team and it’s the first of the New Year’s Six bowl games.

The final game of the day is the Orange Bowl featuring the #6 Wisconsin Badgers versus the #10 Miami Hurricanes. If this game weren’t the Orange Bowl, I’d be inclined to say that this would be a home game for the Canes. While the Canes do actually play their home games in Hard Rock Stadium, these days it’s hard to say that Miami’s regular season games at Hard Rock are home games because of the size of the crowds they’ve had. That could mean that it will become a home game for the Badgers who do travel well. Will that translate into another win for Wisconsin? We’ll see.

Here’s the full slate of games today:
