The UCLA Bruin baseball team (12-12; 5-3 PAC 12) had its six game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Arizona State Sun Devils (12-13; 2-6 PAC 12) yesterday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The teams square off in the rubber match today at 12:30 p.m. PT.

The game was scoreless through five innings, when UCLA broke through with a breadstick in the top of the sixth. Daniel Amaral did the honors for the Bruins singling home Ryan Kreidler.

The Sun Devils struck back to take the lead, 2-1, in the bottom half of the frame, with a solo home run and a run scoring triple off UCLA starter Moises Ceja.

The Bruins bounced right back with three runs in the top of the 7th. Kreidler had an RBI double, and Daniel Rosica drove in two more with a double of his own. UCLA went into the 7th inning stretch leading, 4-2.

Unfortunately, as has been the case many times this season, the UCLA bullpen could not hold the lead and surrendered three runs in the bottom of the 7th, giving ASU the 5-4 lead. The combination of Brian Gadsby, Ryan Scheidler, and Scott Burke could not get the job done, as eight Sun Devils batted in the inning, five of whom singled. Scheidler took the loss for the Bruins.

UCLA has a great chance to tie the game in the 8th inning with runners on first and second and no outs, but a fly out and a double play ended the threat.

Today’s rubber match has an early start, 12:30 p.m. PT. Jon Olson (1-1; 3:96 ERA) will take the mound for the Bruins. Arizona State’s starter is TBA.
