What’s Bruin: Three UCLA Bruins Win NBA Rings

Also, Takkarist McKinley is giving back.

Welcome to an all Bruins in the Pros edition of What’s Bruin. First up, we have a few tidbits related to UCLA Basketball.

UCLA Basketball

Last night, the Golden State Warriors won the NBA title by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers. With that, three former Bruins earned themselves championship rings. Kevon Looney and Matt Barnes are the two Bruins who are on the Warriors’ roster. Warrior GM Bob Myers also played for UCLA from 1993 to 1997. Congratulations to all three Bruins!

And, of course, condolences go out to Kevin Love who plays for the Cavaliers and who was repping UCLA with his letterman’s jacket on his way in to last night’s game.

According to David Grace’s Twitter account, the UCLA Men’s Basketball coaches visited the Lakers yesterday and spent some time with Magic Johnson, GM Rob Pelinka and Head Coach Luke Walton.

I wonder what they talked about while they were there. Hmmm...could it be Lonzo?

UCLA Football

Finally, we have to ask who said you can’t go home again? Takk McKinley did just that over the weekend when he hosted a celebration barbecue in his hometown to thank the people who helped him on his journey from Richmond to the NFL.

McKinley announced that he will be partnering with the For Richmond nonprofit for his charitable contributions in addition to continuing to sponsor trips to UCLA football games. He also announced that a $5,000 annua scholarship would be awarded to a Kennedy High School student-athlete in his grandmother’s honor.

Way to go, Takk!

Go Bruins!!!
