Sophomore Rai Benjamin won his heat in the 400m hurdles and earned an automatic bid to the event’s finals on Friday at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR. Benjamin ran the event in 48.99 seconds.
UCLA Baseball
Nick Kern was honored as the Muscle Milk Male Athlete of the Year by the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association. Kern missed the 2016 season as he battled ulcerative colitis, had 5 surgeries and had his weight drop to just 155 pounds after spending almost 2 months in the hospital. According to the official site, “Through hard work, determination and a strict diet, Kern slowly built his strength back up to his playing weight of over 190 pounds and returned to the field to play in the 2017 season.”
Collegiate Baseball has named Kyle Cuellar and Michael Toglia to their Freshman All-American Team.
Men’s Volleyball
Micah Ma'a and Dylan Missry have been selected to the the 2017 Men's Junior National Training. Twelve of the team’s twenty athletes under age 21 will be chosen to compete at the 2017 FIVB Men's U21 World Championship on June 23-July 2 in the Czech Republic.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
Five members of the Men’s Tennis received Pac-12 All-Academic Honors. Martin Redlicki was named to the Second Team. Austin Rapp, Gage Brymer, Maxime Cressy and Logan Staggs each received an Honorable Mention.
Women’s Rowing
Senior Marie Jacquet has been named to the All-Pac-12 Women’s Rowing team.
Bruin Legends
Troy Aikman announced on his Instagram page that he is engaged to girlfriend Capa Mooty. Congratulations to the happy couple!
Uni-Watch
Another picture of the happy couple on Aikman’s Instagram also gives Bruin fans what may be the first look at some of the UCLA Under Armour Bear Wear that will be arriving on July 1st.
