May The Force Be With Us!

So we're days away from the dawn of a new UCLA Football campaign. Every season is ever so precious to Bruin supporters as well as staff and players who have been grinding it out in Fall camp.

Each new season has it's own story line, questions to be answered, and dreams of glory leading up to the first game of the schedule. This particular season may carry even more weight and hold more ramifications than recent years as we creep towards kick off against Texas A&M this Sunday in the Arroyo Seco.

If the upcoming season was a blockbuster movie it could be aptly named, "Redemption" or maybe, "Return of the Bear-di".

Don't judge me, even casual Star Wars fans are good with the latter I'm sure.

Wait, I think I'm on to something here; Josh Rosen no doubt is Luke Skywalker or Luke Rosen- Walker the pouting hero just beginning to fully understand and harness his powers aided by the force.

Coach Mora must be Yoda, the older wiser Bear-di who must help guide young Skywalker and the rest of the Bear-di to their greatest heights possible against challenging odds!

Offensive Coordinator Fisch is OC Won Kanobe, tasked with planning the Bear-di attack while teaching young Rosenwalker patience and the ability to read defenses and detect their weaknesses at the snap of the ball.
Last but not least we all know that the Evil "Cross Town" Empire has finally rebuilt it's Death Star and has set it's deadly triangulation directly on the regrouping Bear-di.

We'll deal with the Empire in November, for now it's the invading Aggie Clone forces led by ex communicated Bear-di Noel Mazzone that need repelling.

Ok I'm done with the Star Wars references.

All kidding aside I'm calling for a little OPTIMISM here. I hope the entire Bruin Nation can get behind this team as well as Coach Mora and his staff. A little unity and the afore mentioned optimism would go along way while a little less coach bashing couldn't hurt.

The pieces are in place for a very good if not great season (optimism inserted here)!

A strong defensive secondary to go along with another crop of solid if not dynamic Linebackers is promising. D line has talent and speed but lacks girth but DC Bradley should be ale to build on his first two seasons in Westwood and find a way to mask the deficiency in in the trenches of a pass happy Pac 12.

On offense Rosen appears healthy and with a passing offense (hello O Line) that hopefully is not so predictable and a Running game (hello O Line) that can actually, well, RUN THE BALL....we might be really good on the offensive side of the ball.

Special teams production needs to get back to the form the program had in the first two Mora seasons. A few punt or kick off return for TD's would be nice. Creating shorter fields for us and longer fields for the opposition via special teams would be a big plus.

There are many other areas that need improvement from last year's 4-8 team but all we can do now is wait and see how this season shakes out. Either way let's focus on the positive when posting Sunday night and Monday morning while giving the teams short comings and needed player personnel adjustments time to be ironed out by staff before the bashing begins.

May the force be with the Bruins his season, and by force I'm referring to a run game.

Go Bruins.....
