College Football Friday: The Lane Kiffin Era Begins at Florida Atlantic Tonight

We’ll also see #8 Washington, #9 Wisconsin, and the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

Tonight, college football continues with our first game at 3:00, when Fordham takes on Army.

But we can’t talk about today’s games without bringing up the fact that the Lane Kiffin Era is officially beginning at Florida Atlantic University. According to CBS Sports, Lane believes that if he had been calling the plays against Clemson, the Crimson Tide would have come out victorious at last year’s national championship. Kind of a bold statement and he says he doesn’t mean any disrespect toward Nick Saban (too late, Kiffykins). I’m wondering if he’s going to bring back the old go-for-two-on-every-touchdown tactic. But, I digress...

Let’s take a look at tonight’s banner match ups.

#8 Washington at Rutgers, 5:00 pm PT, Fox Sports 1: Rutgers was originally slated to begin the 2017 season with Syracuse, but instead switched things up and scheduled the Washington Huskies. We all know that college football games are scheduled several years out, so back then, this may have looked like a cupcake game. Enter Chris Peterson, and now Washington is a national powerhouse and ranked in the top 10. Rutgers lost the first of the home-and-away series last year 48-13 and is looking to improve on a 4-8 2016 record. UCLA plays the Huskies on October 28, so get your spy gear on and take a look at another future opponent.

Colorado State vs. Colorado, 5:00 pm PT, Pac 12 Network: The Buffs will come to town on September 28, so tonight we’ll take a look at what Mike MacIntyre has done over the last year. This Rocky Mountain Showdown has been entertaining in the past, and Colorado is working without defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt who left for Oregon, and D.J. Elliot out of Kentucky will take over. The Buffs are without Sefo Liufau, but return one of the best receiving corps in the country. The Rams pulled off a win against Oregon State, and will be looking to take down another Pac 12 opponent,
