College Football Saturday: #9 Florida Will Battle #7 Georgia This Morning

The Gators head to Athens for an SEC East showdown against the Bulldogs.

NCAA Football: Georgia at Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

If you turned off the second half of last night’s UCLA football game, perhaps to watch the Dodgers game, consider yourself lucky. If you were like me and you stuck around or watched till the end, it may be hard to wash the bad taste out of your mouth.

Thankfully, there is a full slate of college football games on tap for today to help you try to do that.

Things get started right away at 9 am PT on ABC when the #2 Clemson Tigers visit the Florida State Seminoles. As has been the case under Dabo Sweeney, the Tigers enter today’s game looking for a win in order to secure their spot when the first College Football Playoff rankings are announced on Tuesday. When Florida State was led by Jimbo Fisher, this game could be counted on to be a dandy. But Fisher left the Seminoles for Texas A&M and, now, Willie Taggart is leading the Noles. So far this year, they’ve struggled to a 4-3 mark overall and they are just 2-3 in the ACC. This should be an easy Tiger win.

In fact, the game between the #20 Wisconsin Badgers and the Northwestern Wildcats, which airs on Fox at 9 am, may prove to be a tougher game since the Badgers will be without starting QB Alex Hornibrook and because the Wildcats look to be on the rise as a team.

The game of the day, however, may be the 12:30 pm PT matchup between the #9 Florida Gators and the #7 Georgia Bulldogs. This game will be on CBS. Gator fans must be looking at the way our season has gone and be extremely thankful that Chip Kelly didn’t head to Tallahassee. That’s because Dan Mullen has the Gators at 6-1 and ranked 9th in the country.

Unlike last night’s “battle for first place in the Pac-12 South,” this one definitely will be a battle between teams looking to take control of the SEC East.

The other 12:30 pm PT game that promises to be a good game is the one between the #18 Iowa Hawkeyes and the #17 Penn State Nittany Lions. This one will be played in Happy Valley and can be found on ESPN. While it should be a good one, I’d reserve it for commercial breaks and halftime in the Florida-Georgia game.
