College Football Saturday: The Red River Shootout Highlights Today’s Games

The Longhorns and the Sooners meet in the annual Red River Shootout this morning on Fox.

There are a total of 51 college football games on tap for today. With 812 hours to kill before UCLA kicks off, what games should you watch to pass the time?

Never fear! Because BN is here to help you with that just like we are every Saturday during the season.

There are two dandies that kickoff at 9 am PT this morning. The first one features #1 Alabama at Arkansas in an SEC matchup. Can the Tide go on the road to and beat the Razorbacks and new coach Chad Morris, who came to Arkansas from SMU? Realistically, this one probably won’t be much of a matchup considering that the Razorbacks are just 1-4 so far this season.

The other 9 am game of note will definitely be the better game of the two. This one featured the #19 Texas Longhorns against the #7 Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Shootout. This one will be broadcast by Fox’s team of Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt. Frankly, I’m kind of surprised that the fine folks at Fox didn’t want to make this their primetime game, because this game should attract a lot of eyeballs.

Tom Herman finally seems to have the Longhorns on track. Can he lead them to an upset win over the Sooners? Or, will Kyler Murray cut through the Texas defense like a hot knife through butter? With Gus Johnson on this game, it is bound to be even more exciting than it really is. So, this is one to definitely check out.

There’s another SEC matchup that’s worth noting today. That’s the 12:30 pm kickoff between the #5 LSU Tigers and the #22 Florida Gators. You can find this one on CBS.

This one won’t top the Red River Shootout, but games between two Top 25 teams are hard to find this week. So, this one should live up to the hype.

The last early game I want to mention features the Arizona State Sun Devils visiting the #21 Colorado Buffaloes on Pac-12 Networks at 1 pm PT. Considering that this one is also at Folsom Field in Boulder, it could provide a good measuring stick compared to last week’s UCLA game. In other words, we’ll have an indication of whether the Bruins could beat the Sun Devils or if that’s just a pipe dream of UCLA fans.
