College Football Friday: Bowl Eligibility on the Line for SMU Tonight

Plus, Boise State is facing a down New Mexico between two top 25 opponents, which may end up being a trap game for the Broncos tonight.

NCAA Football: Southern Methodist at Memphis Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

We’re getting toward the end of the season and bowl eligibility is mathematically slipping away for some teams. Tonight, the SMU Mustangs take on the Memphis Tigers, who have beaten SMU four straight years. If the Mustangs can finally scratch out a win tonight, they will be bowl eligible and have that Tiger off their back. One could argue that SMU is still feeling the effects of the NCAA death penalty that was handed down back in 1986, as they have not been in the national spotlight since scandals shut down their program.

Tonight we also have the #25 Boise State Broncos taking on the 3-7 New Mexico Lobos in what should be an easy win for the Broncos. Boise State is coming off a hard fought win against #16 Fresno State, which was their first November win against a ranked opponent in school history. Bronco quarterback Brett Rypien is completing almost 70% of his passes, and New Mexico’s three quarterbacks that have been in the rotation can’t hold a candle to him.

Here is tonight’s line up:
