College Football Saturday: #4 Michigan vs. #10 Ohio State Takes Center Stage

Can Jim Harbaugh exorcise his demons against Urban Meyer?

NCAA Football: Ohio State at Michigan Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

First, let me start out by saying how thankful I am that there are some decent games on tap for the early shift. Last Saturday at the Rose Bowl was brutal with all of the cupcake games on the schedule before UCLA took the field to beat Southern Cal. Thankfully, that won’t be the case this week.

The clear headliner of the morning shift is The Game between the #4 Michigan Wolverines and #10 Ohio State Buckeyes at 9 am PT. In a lot of respects, this is a play-in game for the College Football Playoff. Michigan is in if it wins out while Ohio State would have a good case should it knock Michigan off here and win the Big 10. This is also a big version of The Game for Michigan because the Wolverines have only won this matchup one time since 2003, which is a long period of dominance for the Buckeyes, and this looks like the best opportunity for the Wolverines to reverse their fortunes in the rivalry series.

There are a few other big rivalry match-ups in the early shift to keep an eye on. We have Clean, Old Fashioned Hate, which matches up the #5 Georgia Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. There’s the Sunshine Showdown between the #11 Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles. There’s also the Purdue Boilermakers traveling to face their rival, the Indiana Hoosiers, which has the makings of a fun match-up as well.

Obviously, at the noon shift, everyone will be glued to UCLA and Stanford, but, if you’re looking for something to watch during the commercial break, the Iron Bowl between the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers kicks off at 12:30 PM PST. And in the Pac-12, the Duel in the Desert between the Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils will also be going on at this time.
