There is just one game tonight in college football. It features the Georgia State Panthers visting the Memphis Tigers.
So far this season, Georgia State is 1-1. The Panthers opened the season at home with a 24-20 win over Kennesaw State. On an interesting side note, Georgia State plays its home games at what used to be known as Turner Field, and Centennial Olympic Stadium before that.
But, tonight’s game will be played at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, home of the Tigers. The Tigers head into tonight’s game also having split their first two games. Memphis crushed Mercer 66-14 in Week 1 but lost to the Navy Midshipmen, 22-21, last week.
Tonight’s game will be broadcast on ESPN at 4 pm PT and it will be streamed on WatchESPN.com.
Mike Norvell is now in his third season at the helm in Memphis after serving as the offensive coordinator at Arizona State under Todd Graham. Norvell has kept the Tigers competive since Justin Fuente departed for Virginia Tech. They finished 8-5 and placed 3rd in the AAC West his first year. Then, last year, they finished 10-3 and won the AAC West.
This year, Norvell is graduate transfer Brady White at quarterback. White spent his first three seasons in college football at ASU, but he graduated in December 2017, making him eligible to be a graduate transfer for Memphis. The move reunites him with his former offensive coordinator.
Georgia State head coach Shawn Elliott will start junior QB Dan Ellington.
This game probably won’t be close, but it’s the only game being played tonight.
This is your College Football Friday open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
