College Football Saturday: Kansas Hosts Rutgers in the “Futility Bowl”

The Scarlet Knights travel to Lawrence, KS to play the Jayhawks in a battle of terrible teams. This could be the most competitive game either school plays for a long time.

There are three early games that you might want to check out this morning while you’re waiting for the UCLA Bruins game against Fresno State tonight.

The first one kicks off at 9 am PT when last week’s opponent, the Oklahoma Sooners, visit the Iowa St. Cyclones. The #5 Sooners are a good football team. We all saw that last week. This week, they travel to Ames, Iowa to play Matt Campbell’s Cyclones.

This game is intriguing because Campbell is one of the game’s brightest young coaches and, if the Sooners aren’t careful, the Cyclones might upend them. Of course, after watching them blowout the Bruins last week, if the Sooners blow the Cyclones out too, it will make us feel a little better about last week. This game is on ABC.

The second game you should check out this morning is a game I’m calling the “Futility Bowl presented by every newpaper in America.” That’s because this game features two of the worst football teams in the Power Five. Yeah, I’m talking about the Kansas Jayhawks and the Scarlet Chickens, uh, I mean, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

I think the winner of this game gets to play Oregon State next season, or something like that.

This game also kicks off at 9 am PT and will air on Fox Sports Net. In Southern California, it can be seen on Fox Sports West. The reason to watch this game is rather simple. This game may be the most competitive game either of these teams play for the next decade. Rutgers won the last meeting between these teams 27-14 back in 2015. Regardless, if you have a soft spot for either school, this is a game worth checking out.

The third early game worth checking out is the matchup between the #12 LSU Tigers and the #7 Auburn Tigers. you’ve got #7 hosting #12 and it’s an SEC battle. It’s got the makings of a possible upset if Auburn isn’t careful. I’m predicting that the Tigers will win this game.

But, seriously, I’ve got a hunch that LSU comes out ahead in this one. This game kicks off at 12:30 pm on CBS.

Here’s the full slate of today’s games.
