College Football Saturday: Wake Forest Looks to Upset Notre Dame

While the Fighting Irish will attempt to maintain their reputation on the road, Georgia and Alabama are looking to add another win to their perfect records.

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

I think one of the greatest things about college football is the fact that there is always the potential for an upset and that’s what some fans are hoping for today.

A total of eleven games kick off at 9:00 am PT and there are a couple that could get interesting. My top pick is the Wake Forest Demon Deacons who are hosting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. College football pundits have Notre Dame staring down the mouth of an upset, while Wake Forest hasn’t beaten a top ten team since 1946. I don’t know why, but I think Wake Forest will be ending their streak today.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will take on the #19 Michigan Wolverines in an early game in Ann Arbor. Both of these teams have a lot to prove. Scott Frost’s 0-2 debut hasn’t exactly been spectacular and coming off a road loss to Troy with a back up quarterback under center has left a bad taste in the mouths of Husker fans. It’s unclear if they’ll get their starter back for today’s game. On the flip side, some say Michigan’s prodigal son, Jim Harbaugh, is on the hot seat and a loss to Nebraska at home would only turn the heat up. I’d expect this to be a fun game to watch.

At 12:30 pm PT, the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide hosts the #22 Texas A&M Aggies. This is probably the best matchup on the early part of today’s schedule. Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies are getting into a groove, proving their worth in a close loss to the Clemson Tigers last week. But the always hot Crimson Tide are going to be awfully hard to unseat and you can bet Nick Saban is up for the challenge.

There is only one early Pac-12 game today featuring the Arizona Wildcats visiting the Oregon State Beavers at 1:00 pm. I know this isn’t exactly the contest of the year, but, at least, we can check out the Wildcats for our upcoming game on October 20.

Here is the full lineup of today’s games.
