This ACC matchup will be played at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.
Like UCLA, Florida State replaced their coach in the offseason. The Seminoles are now led by former Oregon coach Willie Taggart. Taggart arrives in Tallahassee after spending just a year in Eugene. Previously, he coached the USF Bulls from 2013 to 2016.
It should be interesting to see what Taggart is able to accomplish with the ‘Noles. In his previous stops at Western Kentucky, USF and Oregon, he was able to turn around each of the programs from sub-.500 records to winning records.
But, Florida State is not exactly a rebuild for Taggart.
Last season, the Seminoles were 7-6. So, he’s starting from a much better base than any of his previous stops.
Meanwhile, the Hokies enter their third season under Justin Fuente, having gone 19-7 in their first two season under the former Memphis head coach.
So, today’s matchup features two impressive coaches.
Taggart has named redshirt junior Deondre Francois as the starting quarterback for the Seminoles. Francois was the starter in 2016 and again in 2017 until he suffered a season-ending knee injury. So, it really isn’t much of a surprise that Francois will start.
Josh Jackson will start for the Hokies despite being surrounded by some academic drama during the offseason.
