There’s only game in college football tonight.
It’s between the undefeated SMU Mustangs, who are ranked 16th in the nation, and the Houston Cougars, who have struggled this season under new head coach Dana Holgorsen.
SMU is one of the surprises this season in college football. After his results at UC Berkeley were...disappointing, I don’t think anyone would have predicted that Sonny Dykes would have the Mustangs undefeated at this point in his second season, but SMU comes into tonight’s game with a 7-0 record.
Meanwhile, at Houston, there have been suggestions that Holgorsen has been attempting the collegiate version of tanking after he decided to redshirt senior starting quarterback D’Eriq King and senior wide receiver Keith Corbin after four games, even though both players were healthy.
Some of the allegations have come from former UCLA graduate transfer Justin Murphy, who transfered to Houston after becoming eligible for a sixth year of college football at the end of last season. Initially, it sounded like good news as Murphy could provide leadership for the Bruins’ offensive line but, a few days later, he announced that he was transferring again and, eventually, landed in Houston.
But, Murphy is no longer a member of the Cougars.
Tonight’s game kicks off at 4:30 pm PT and will be broadcast on ESPN. It can be streamed on WatchESPN.com.
This is your College Football Thursday open thread.
Go Bruins!
