College Football Saturday: #6 Florida Hosts #8 Georgia in SEC East Battle

The winner of the Gators-Bulldogs game will likely win the SEC East.

Today feels like an offweek in college football. I think that’s because this week’s games just don’t feel all that competitive. Let’s look at some of the games better games today.

At 9 am PT, the #14 Michigan Wolverines start things off today on ABC with a game against the Maryland Terrapins. The Wolverines are coming off a big win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Terps have lost their last three games and five of their last six. Their only win during that time came against Rutgers. Look for an easy Michigan win here.

Today’s game between the #23 Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the North Carolina State Wolfpack should prove to be the more competitive 9 am game featuring a Top 25 team. That’s because both teams have a winning record. NC State is 4-3 while the Demon Deacons are 6-1. Wake Forest’s last three games have been decided by three points, three points and two points, respectively.

While NC State still has a winning record, they’ve struggled in the ACC, beating just Syracuse. Look for Wake Forest to come out ahead.

The best early game features the #8 Georgia Bulldogs taking on the #6 Florida Gators. This game kicks off at 12:30 pm PT on CBS. Frankly, it’s rather remarkable that the Gators are ranked so high in their second season under Dan Mullen when you consider that Florida “lost” the battle to hire Chip Kelly to UCLA. In fact, the Gators have won more games this year than Kelly has won at UCLA since he was hired.

Of course, you can’t count Georgia out of this one. Kirby Smart has the Bulldogs playing well since he took over the program there. The winner of this game will likely win the SEC East and earn a date in the SEC Championship game against either LSU or Alabama.

Finally, at 1 pm, Fox has a game between the #9 Utah Utes and the Washington Huskies. This game has the potential to influence who wins the Pac-12 South. If the Huskies win and the Bruins can beat Colorado, it means UCLA will move into at least a tie for second in the Pac-12 South.

Here’s the full slate of today’s games.
