How To Watch, Game Preview and Game Thread: UCLA Bruins vs. Chaminade Silverswords

Having lost last night’s game to BYU, the UCLA Bruins now move into the consolation bracket of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. That means that the Bruins will play Chaminade Silverswords today at 2 pm PT on ESPN2.

Chaminade lost to the #4 Kansas Jayhawks yesterday in the third game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Silverswords are led by senior guard Andre Arissol and redshirt senior Tyler Cartaino from Newbury Park. Against Kansas last night, Arissol scored 18 points while Cartaino scored 17. Senior guard Kendall Small, who is also from Southern California, put up 10 points against Kansas.

Senior forward Eliet Donley and redshirt junior guard Telly Davenport round out the starting five for the Silverswords.

Chaminade is a small Catholic university with just around 2,100 students whose sports teams play in NCAA Division II.

The bottom line here is simple: There is absolutely no way that the outcome of today’s game should be in any doubt. That doesn’t mean the Bruins can take it easy against the Silverswords. Instead, it means that UCLA and head coach Mick Cronin should use today’s game as an opportunity for the Bruins to work on their defense including their perimeter defense. While Chaminade showed a propensity for shooting threes against Kansas, they only hit on seven of the twenty-one three-pointers they took. So, UCLA can get aggressive about defending shots from outside without getting torched from behind the arc.
