College Football Friday: Apple Cup Highlights Today’s Games

I hope each of our readers enjoyed yesterday’s Thanksgiving feast and that you got all your Black Friday shopping done already because another feast is about to begin — a college football feast!

Today’s feast begins with the #24 Virginia Tech Hokies at the Virginia Cavaliers on ABC at 9 am PT. As an appetizer, this should be a good one. Both Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente and UVa’s Bronco Mendenhall have coached their teams to 8-3 records so far this season. For Virginia, Mendenhall has completely turned around the Cavalier football program. The winner of this game will win the ACC Coastal and face undefeated Clemson in the ACC Championship Game next week.

Then, at 12:30 pm PT, ABC has a delicious main course which features the #19 Cincinnati Bearcats at the #18 Memphis Tigers. This game features a pair of teams which are both 10-1. The Bearcats’ only loss came at the hands of #1 Ohio State while Memphis lost their only game to Temple.

Finally, for dessert, Fox has the Apple Cup game between the Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars. The Huskies host this year’s game, which only has bragging rights on the line. Both teams come into the game at 6-5. So, both are bowl-eligible. The best that the winner of this game can finish is third in the Pac-12 North, but it’s still going to be a battle because it’s one of the Pac-12’s best rivalries.
