This afternoon, the UCLA women’s water polo team opens MPSF play today with a home game against the UC Berkeley Golden Bears in a rematch of last weekend’s third place game at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.

Last Time Out

The Bruins fell to UC Berkeley, 7-6, in overtime in the third place game at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational at UC Irvine. Maddie Musselman scored twice to lead UCLA while Grace Reego, Val Ayala, Ava Johnson, Katrina Drake also scored for the Bruins.

After four quarters, last weekend’s game was tied, 4-4. UC Berkeley scored all four of their regulation goals in the first half and UCLA scored all of theirs in the second half. Ultimately, it came down to overtime and the Golden Bears scored twice in the first overtime and once in the second while the Bruins could only manage one goal in the first and one more in the second, giving UC Berkeley a 7-6 win.

UC Berkeley Golden Bears

The Bears are now ranked third after beating the Bruins, who have dropped to fourth, but today’s game is a chance for UCLA to avenge last week’s loss. So far this season, the Bears have only lost to Stanford and Southern Cal.

This game is a toss-up. So, I’m not making any predictions for this one, but I’m hopeful that the Bruins can win it at home.
