This afternoon, Bruin fans can get an idea of just how good the Sooners are this season.

As Labor Day Weekend 2019 continues, there is just one college football game on the schedule today and that’s a game that features the Oklahoma Sooners hosting the Houston Cougars. Today’s game will kickoff at 4:30 pm PT on ABC.

While UCLA will face San Diego State in the Bruins home opener on Saturday at 1:15 pm PT, UCLA will face the Sooners at the Rose Bowl on September 14. So, this afternoon’s game will give Bruin fans a preview of UCLA’s second home game.

Of course, Oklahoma has to replace quarterback Kyler Murray, who won the Heisman Trophy last season. Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley has brought in former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts as a transfer to lead the Oklahoma offense.

While Hurts may not be as good as Murray or Baker Mayfield, Hurts did win a national championship in Tuscaloosa. So, he’s a significant addition for the Sooners.

Riley has also added former Washington State and Ohio State defensive coordinator Alex Grinch to fix the Sooner defense. So, look for Oklahoma’s defense to be improved over last season.

Speaking of improvement, the Houston Cougars should be improved compared to how they were under former head coach Major Applewhite. That’s because the Cougars hired former West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen to replace him. Holgorsen returns to Houston where he was the school’s offensive coordinator under Kevin Sumlin.

Despite this, today’s game shouldn’t be in doubt.

Oklahoma should win easily.

This is your College Football Sunday open thread.
