College Football Saturday: Pitt Meets Penn State For the 100th Time

A couple of Pac-12 schools are also some of the early games of note today.

With only three games being played last night, there are a total of 65 games being played today.

When it comes to today’s early games, no game may be bigger than the Pitt-Penn State game. Today’s game is the 100th game played between these teams. The #13 Penn State Nittany Lions holds the edge in the rivalry with 52 wins while the Pittsburgh Panthers have won 43 games. There have been four ties in the series. Today’s game will kickoff at 9 am on ABC. Despite the fact that these teams have been playing football since 1893, the series will take an indefinite break after today’s game.

Penn State is currently ranked 13th while Pitt is unranked. So, expect the Nittany Lions to win this game.

Meanwhile, the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide play their first SEC conference game today when they visit the South Carolina Gamecocks at 12:30 pm PT on CBS. While the Tide enters today 2-0 after rolling over Duke and New Mexico State, South Carolina comes in at 1-1, having lost a close game to North Carolina and crushed Charleston Southern last week.

There are two Pac-12 teams playing at 12:30 pm PT this afternoon. The Stanford Cardinal, fresh off a 45-20 loss to Southern Cal, heads east to play the #17 UCF Knights. This game represents an opportunity for UCF to show that they can play football with the big boys. Unfortunately, Stanford isn’t as good this year as they’ve been. So, it’s possible that the Cardinal could be 1-2 after today. This game can be found on ESPN.

The other Pac-12 school playing at 12:30 pm PT is the #24 Southern California Trojans who are in Provo, Utah this afternoon for a game against the BYU Cougars. As much as it pains me to say it, look for a big win today from Southern Cal. That’s because BYU is 1-1 after losing to Utah in week 1 and needing overtime to beat a bad Tennessee team last weekend in Knoxville.

Here’s today’s full list of games:
