There are three games on tonight’s college football schedule, but, let’s face it: Only one matters.
That’s because the #10 Utah Utes visit the Mausoleum tonight for a game against the USC Trojans at 6 pm PT on Fox Sports 1.
Sure, Florida International visits Louisiana Tech starting at 5 pm PT, but that game really has no interest for Bruin fans. The third game tonight features the Air Force Falcons visiting the #20 Boise State Broncos at 6 pm PT on ESPN2.
But only the game between the Utes and the Trojans will be of interest to Bruin fans. It’s an interesting time for collegiate sports fans in Los Angeles with both the UCLA and Southern Cal football teams not playing well and both schools in the market for a new athletic director.
With Dan Guerrero’s retirement announcement, UCLA almost certainly will now keep Chip Kelly until at least the end of the 2020 season. That could mean that Southern Cal will take a shot a hiring Urban Meyer if Clay Helton is fired this year.
Of course, as Bruin fans, we want Utah to win tonight. But some may think a Southern Cal will help Clay Helton’s job status.
I’m here to say, ”Don’t fall into that trap.”
There are a lot of other factors at play across town. This week, USCFootball.com mentioned that Dan Patrick said he has a source who says it will be hard for Southern Cal to hire Urban Meyer.
The bottom line is simple: NEVER root for Southern Cal, even if you think doing so could help the Bruins.
Here’s tonight’s slate:
