In response to the Coronavirus outbreak and the World Health Organization’s declaration of the virus as pandemic, The Pac-12 Conference issued a statement today regarding the men’s basketball tournament and all upcoming sporting events:

The Pac-12 Conference has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament and all Pac-12 sport competitions and Pac-12 Championship events, effective immediately, until further notice. This decision has been made in consultation with our member universities in an effort to limit the spread of the virus and in the interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes, campus personnel, working and event personnel, and all those who attend Pac-12 events.

After one round of the men’s basketball tournament, play has been suspended following cancellations in all other Power 5 conferences. Updates are constantly coming in from the NCAA. UCLA had been scheduled to play UC Berkeley today.

Additionally, according to KLSsports.com, the upcoming Pac-12 women’s gymnastics championships have also been cancelled.

The Big 12 has postponed other championships until April 15, but it is unclear when play will actually resume. With the uncertainty of how this virus will continue to spread and the desire for containment, measures are being taken to protect both student-athletes and the general public from this virus.

The Bruins Nation staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they are available.

Go Bruins.
