His name wasn’t called during the 2020 NFL Draft but it certainly happened quickly thereafter for Krys Barnes to see the Green Bay Packers come calling.
Barnes signed on to join the Packers via an undrafted free agent contract just hours after the draft culminated.
Interestingly enough, Barnes joins his high school teammate in quarterback Jordan Love with the Packers. Though, Barnes told NBC23 that Love’s position on the team didn’t factor into his signing of a contract with the Packers.
“I had to take him out of the equation. For me, ya know I had to make the best decision for myself in the moment and without Jordan even in the equation, it was still a great opportunity.”
Factor or no factor, the chance to play at Lambeau Field, one of the more historic fields in all of sports, was surely a no-brainer.
Currently, the Packers employ a healthy roster of linebackers so you’d have to assume Barnes’ first contributions will likely come on special teams. That is, of course, if he makes the final 53-man roster in the first place.
One thing is for sure, he certainly has the fuel to his fire to work harder than anyone else.
“You know, it’s just all fuel in the fire through all 7 rounds. So all the other 31 teams who didn’t pick me and passed me up, I will go out there and show them what they missed on.”
Barnes had also apparently been talking with the Packers for weeks, and after the draft, they beat out the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings who also contacted Barnes post-draft.
His NFL dream is now a reality and we couldn’t be happier for you, Krys!
