We’ve recently discussed how professional sports are likely on their way back next month in the state of California, so it only seems likely that collegiate sports are also on their way back. That means less talk about the coronavirus and more talk about the upcoming fall sports.
Trust me, I’m excited about that aspect.
So today we take a look back through some of the newsworthy stories covering the UCLA fall athletic programs, of course of note in there is the football team. Recently, the fine folks over at 247Sports did a scholarship update after all the recent transfer news, doing the leg work for us all.
They’ve summed it up as such: 80 current scholarship players, five under the NCAA allowed limit of 85. There’s 11 seniors, 21 juniors, 15 sophomores and 31 freshman on the roster. We’ll list those out with some analysis later this week.
It’s curious though, to see there’s still five roster spots essentially available. Will head coach Chip Kelly give those out to walk-ons? Will there be a few more transfers that can come in and be eligible to play right away? Either way, there’s five more spots to potentially fill before the start of the season, and that’s certainly a good problem to have.
