UCLA Bruins Athletic Director Martin Jarmond issued a statement following the Pac-12’s decision to play a conference-only schedule this fall.
For more on the scheduling and the conference’s statement, head to PacificTakes.
After it was announced that football, men’s and women’s soccer as well as women’s volleyball would all take part in a Conference-only schedule, Jarmond issued this statement:
“UCLA fully supports today’s decision by the Pac-12 CEO Group to delay the start of mandatory athletic activities and to limit fall seasons for several sports to conference-only competition. The health and safety of our student-athletes, staffa nd fans is paramount, and this move affords us the greatest level of flexibility to adapt and evolve in real time, in the midst of a very fluid situation.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to operate out of an abundance of caution during this pandemic. Go Bruins!”
Jarmond shares the same sentiment as I do, wishing the best for the student-athletes. Ultimately, the safety of our athletes is the first thing that must be considered, before anything else. That safety goes for more than just on-field workouts and spills over into on- or off-campus housing, proper testing and care, and much, much more.
We’ll keep you up to date on anything that transpires with regards to the fall schedules at UCLA, in the Pac-12 and nationally as well.
