Well, that took a while.

During ‘award watch season,’ we had to wait longer than usual to see our first UCLA Bruins player named. But that wait is over.

Demetric Felton was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, joining the nation’s top running backs for the annual award that recognizes just that, the top collegiate back.

A threat in the receiving game, Felton made his presence known last year even with Joshua Kelley in the lineup. He set a UCLA record for a running back with 55 catches out of the backfield. He also had 311 yards on 86 carries and had multiple big plays including a 100-yard kickoff return as a returner.

The Doak Walker Award is named for former SMU running back Doak Walker and is the only major college football award that also requires student-athletes to be in good academic standing as well.

The semifinalists will be announced to a list of 10 sometime in November.

Congratulations, Demetric!
