Jake Burton finds transfer destination: Baylor

The Bears are getting an immediate impact player on their offense line

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 07 San Diego State at UCLA

Just hours after he announced he was entering the transfer portal, former UCLA Bruins left tackle Jake Burton found a new home.

He’ll be headed east, to the great state of Texas, and joining the Baylor Bears.

He said in his original post that he was hoping to play right away and get in on the action this fall, so that really limited the choices for him to be given a spot on the roster. While most teams were set at specific positions, there were certainly a few teams that stood out as options for him as they needed tackle help.

The Baylor Bears weren’t one of those teams that jumped out immediately, mainly because they return their starting left and right tackles, but they are moving their former right guard to center and have to replace both starting guards from a season ago.

Baylor’s offensive line struggled last year in pass protection mainly, forcing current quarterback Charlie Brewer to run for his life and sacrifice his body on multiple throws in 2019. Burton, if he can kick inside, or if he is indeed better than either Connor Galvin or Blake Bedier, should immediately bolster not only the depth but also the offensive line as a unit altogether.

Congratulations on finding a new home, and we’ll wish you the best in this step and your next one into the NFL, Jake! 4’s Up!
